The Baphuon temple is located in Angkor Thom, northwest of the Bayon temple Angkor , Cambodia. Built in the 11th century, it is a temple called mountain that is to say it was built on three levels.
It is the archetype of the Baphuon style. At the end of the 15th century, the Baphuon was converted to a Buddhist temple. we encounter the unfinished reclining Buddha on the west side of the temple impressed by the size of 9 meters high by 70 meters long. the 20th century much of the Baphuon temple collapsed, efforts for its restoration have been completed, but had to be discontinued in 1960 following the coming to power of the Khmer Rouge.
In 1995 the restoration of Baphuon temple Angkor has resumed, but with difficulty due to the loss plans position of each stone that makes up the temple for the power of the Khmer Rouge.
in April 2011 archaeologists completed restoration after 51 years of hard work and research for the restoration of Baphuon temple .
a ceremony to inaugurate the Baphuon temple occurred July 3, 2011 with inviting King of Cambodia Norodom Sihamoni and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon who first visited the Baphuon temple during the ceremony
